Here at Diehl, we like to consider ourselves experts on the NMLS Exam. After thousands of customers that have passed the NMLS Test, we have created a list of TEN of the best tips to help you pass the first time!
1. Take a great course
Taking a course held by an expert instructor helps to hold you accountable for studying. This is also a resource to have your questions answered and to understand key topics. Our course is available here.
2.Do not procrastinate
This is a difficult exam, and it requires a lot of studying. Make sure to dedicate the necessary time to studying and preparing.
3.The best way to study is to practice
Complete practice problems, review wrong answers, look at the answer feedback, and study the topic of the question you missed. Practice makes perfect, and you can learn from your mistakes.
4. Read the questions carefully
Sometimes the questions can be worded in a confusing way. Make sure to re-read questions and look for words like EXCEPT or NOT, so you can fully understand the questions.
5. Answer questions immediately
It is important to answer the questions right away even if you are not sure of the answer. You do not want to run out of time by having a lot of unanswered questions. With questions you are unsure about, you can click “Mark for Review” so that you can look at them again at the end.
6.Simplify questions
Focus on what the question is actually asking and ignore irrelevant information. It also may help to look at the answer choices first.
7. Use the process of elimination
Looking at the answer choices and eliminating those you know are wrong is extremely helpful. This helps you to make educated guesses and increase the chances of getting the question right!
8.Understand Federal Regulations
While federal mortgage related laws are not the only focus of the test, they are included in many of the questions. It is important to know these regulations and be able to apply them in the questions.
9. Plan to use the full time
You may finish really early, but it is important to plan on using the full amount of time. This way you assure that you have time to go over everything, and it keeps you from getting stressed if it’s taking longer than you expected.
10. If you do not pass, try again
Again, this is a very difficult exam, and only about half of those that take the exam pass. If you do not pass, study more and take notes on your mistakes, then try again! Take a class if you did not the first time or adjust your study habits.
